Destiny of Light

While the two men were at work, Luna walked over to Layla to see what she was reading. "So, all of that is in the Elven language, right?"

"Yeah. It's not used much anymore. Raven wanted to keep it hidden from anyone and thus wrote it in a language he was sure I'd understand. I could probably translate it to another book easily, but I'd rather be safe than sorry."

"Isn't it a bit dangerous to have it, though?"

"Well, yeah, but I'm willing to protect it to get answers."

Jargos and Kreig worked silently. Kreig was exhausted, but Jargos was wired

Luna started getting a bit curious. "Mother always told me that you had a power that was very rare in our village. That Ramona wanted it. You know, the leader of the village in your time of living there?"

Layla laughed a bit. "There was supposedly a power that was passed down among our village until it eventually disappeared. Mother Theresa believes that, because of abuse, it was stripped from the few owners of that era. We have reason to believe that I'm the last one with it, and I'm hoping that you might inherit it eventually."

"Can you show me?"

Jargos overheard the women and smiled, but Kreig didn't notice. Once the spit was complete, he went to the cave to sleep

Layla nodded. She closed the book and put it back in the bag. She stood up. "Take a few steps back. I haven't used this in a while." She formed a flickering sphere in her hand. White markings started forming on her body. Her eyes turned white. She closed them to concentrate. "This was the basic power that I started with, but it gets charged up when I use this power."

Jargos watched and smiled

Luna watched closely.

"I'd launch this, but if I do then it'll probably blow up this cave. It takes less effort to charge it now, contrary to when I first gained use of it. Come here and put your hands under it."

Luna did so, and she could feel the power within it. "I can feel the power emanating off of it."

Layla nodded. "If I let go, it may try to explode on you and it might do some serious harm." Layla absorbed the power within the sphere to force it to lessen. She let it go into Luna's hands.

"It... It feels just strange."

Layla took the sphere back into her hands. "That's because this kind of power you're not used to. If you can truly inherit the full potential of it, then you'll be able to get used to it."

Kreig was out like a light, and Jargos was smiling

Luna took a step back to calm from the power rush.

"You're too weak to handle it tonight. Get some rest. Starting tomorrow I'll help you start focusing your powers to improve them."

"Alright." Luna nodded. She left to lay down. During this, Layla walked over to Jargos.

Jargos nodded to Layla as she walked over

Layla spoke quietly, "I'm wanting to test and see if she'll truly inherit that power. And I don't mean my limitation of it. The full power. Because I'm behind in my personal magical training, I doubt I'll unlock its full potential for some time; however, if I train her, she'll unlock it fully. She has to enhance her medical capabilities if we're going to have a shot at getting through all of this without one of us getting killed. She has the power to remove the Shadows' 'poison,' if you want to call it that."

"Agreed, but how do we do that without pushing her too hard. She'll be no use exhausted, just like Kreig is now. If we were attacked, we'd be out-maned"

Layla sighed. "I don't want to push her too hard, but we're in a rush for time. Since I've exposed her to the power, she may come into it on her own."

'That's a possibility" Jargos nodded

Layla propped up against the wall. "My only concern is that, if it comes too early, she'll lose control of it. The power does more than boost your powers. It alters your thinking a bit when you're not used to it. Like, when you're pushing it too hard. It's basically a way to tell your body to stop and slow down before it does pretty much kill you. That kind of power is hard to control without practice."

"Hm . . . We're in a bit of a bind"

"If Luna truly can access the same ability that I have, then it's crucial that someone stays with her. If she gets to where she's starting to lose control, then we need to monitor her. The moment she gets even the slightest bit out of hand, find any way possible to strike her unconscious. As soon as you do, her powers will disable to recover. We also have the chance that she'll run out of energy to support it and she'll black out temporarily.

Whatever the case, someone needs to stay with her from here on out. Now that I've exposed her, she could come into it at any time without my aid."

"Should Kreig?"

"If he wants to. It doesn't matter to me who accompanies her. I just don't want her getting into something that she can't get out of."

"Kreig seems the best option. It'll be beneficial to them both"

Layla nodded. She sighed a bit. "Now comes to the bigger issue. What can we even interpret about this guy we've got held here?"

Jargos shook his head, unsure

Layla glanced up at the ceiling, searching for a thought. "Maybe we should watch over him tonight, make sure he doesn't escape. I don't mind taking first shift."

"Alright, it works for me" Jargos said

Layla nodded. "Alright. Get some sleep. I'll take first watch."
