Kreig nodded to Luna

"That's her. I've only heard the legends of The Silver Wolf"


Jargos nuzzled Layla gently

Layla cocked her head to one side. "Legends?"

Luna spoke quietly to Kreig. "How is she a wolf? That's not even possible in our line of magic as elves."

"The people of Darkwoods have spoke of you in this state for a century" Kreig said to Layla "It's by the power of the Runes that she can shift in this way"


Jargos looked at his ancestors and smiled

Layla was a bit unsure how to respond. She turned to Jargos. "Well, it was thanks to Jargos that I can even hold this form."

Jargos shook his head


Kreig walked over to one of the Beasts

With no other thought on her mind, Layla asked, "I would like to ask if any of you can give us details on the one named Mortifer. We had contact with this devilish man and he seems to be a descendant of the one we knew as Balthazar from the last century."

One of the Beasts walked forward and nodded to Layla

"Can you tell us anything about him?" she asked.

The Beast shook her head

"You're asking the wrong question, Layla" Kreig told her "Can you show us?" Kreig asked

The Beast nodded and a glowing blue energy flooded from her

Layla stood up in a bit of shock. She stayed beside Jargos, not knowing what to expect.

In the energy, images began to come into view. They painted the story of Balthozar, and his death, then a light rushing from his body to that of a woman. That woman seemed evil before the light, but simply demonic after it. The woman gave birth and that child passed on the lineage. each child was more demonic and hellish than the last. Soon Mortifer was born, pure shadows of blackest darkness flying around him


Jargos growled and reared up to attack

Kreig was seething, but made no movement


The image of Mortifer brought up a dark book in front of him, and when he opened it, shadows burst forth into the world. The book looked like the shadow twin of Layla's book

Layla nearly started growling in anger. "I can't believe this. That... That piece of trash. I was almost for sure that everything had been taken care of." She wriggled slightly, sliding the bag off of her. "I'm starting to think that this book isn't going to give us help much longer."

The Beast absorbed her energy back into her body before walking off

Layla looked to Jargos. "We're going to need a new plan. This is just bloody fantastic!" she said in aggravated sarcasm. She rubbed her paw over her face. "Great. Just simply great."

"What are you angry about? This is a good thing" Kreig said



"How?" Jargos asked

"This practically means that we have to hunt down a man that has the powers of the worst evil at his disposal. He was blessed with darkness and he's spreading it as we speak. Everyone we know is going to turn into a mindless zombie if he isn't stopped."

"Did either of you see his book?" Kreig asked



"No, I can't say I did" Jargos responded, a bit puzzled

"I did, but it's not like I saw one on him when we had him captured last time."

"And, what, do you remember about his book?" Kreig seemed almost happy



Jargos remained quiet

"The shadows came from it. He summoned them last time without the book in his possession. Why do you I think I told Jargos to get all of you out of there?"

"No, What did it Look like?" Kreig asked

"I don't know about that."

"It looked like a twin to Layla's book! Don't you guys see?! Opposites cancel! It's what makes balance in the world. Layla's book must be the key to countering Mortifer's book. Why else would they be twins? Raven must've had it in keeping, that's why he put so much into it for Layla to get it and protect it. That must also be why the shadows are after it! They want it gone!" Krieg exclaimed


Jargos was lost, yet it made sense

"Raven claims he made it the night before we left Nicca. I mean, unless he had a good reason for not being honest. It's not like we can ask him, though. Master Raven's dead now."

"He could have meant he made it's contents that night, not necessarily the physical book" Jargos stated, not sure either way what was true
