Destiny of Light

Layla kept rubbing her hand over the rune. Her curiosity kept telling her to go explore and see what she could find out about the shadows. Her common sense, however, told her the opposite.

Luna waved back to Kreig. "I'm going to pack it in early tonight. It's been a long day of walking."

"I understand, Good night" Kreig told her. He began doing push-ups


Jargos hugged Layla, then wondered what they should do next

Layla sighed a bit. "It's killing my curiosity to go out and explore. I mean, someone's got to find out what we're up against."

"We can go together while they sleep" Jargos suggested

"As much as I'd normally agree to that, you're the strongest one out of all of us. These things can still attack Garlan. Rumors say they've been making their way into the villages and such. It may be best if as many people stay together as possible." She laughed a bit under her breath. "The tales of clique say that the weakest gets picked off first. That, or the one that chooses to go alone. I don't know if I should call myself brave for being the one to go for safety of the group or to call myself the idiot for wanting to go solo."

He chuckled with her, he had missed her humor so

Layla wanted to explore, but she was worried of the outcome. "Someone has to find more information, and I'd rather be the one to risk it to find out more."

"It will be fine. Let's go" Jargos nodded to her as he stood

As concerned as Layla was for Jargos' safety, she reluctantly agreed. "Alright."

Kreig finished his little work out, then crawled into bed. He couldn't sleep, but the bed was comforting


Jargos quietly opened the door

Layla walked out behind him. She stayed silent and followed close behind, carefully making sure not to wake their other two partners up.

Kreig wasn't asleep, and heard the other two leaving, but decided that it was their business, not his



Jargos lead the way out into the city

"I don't know what all these things are capable of, and that's why I wanted to take them on my own." She perked her ears at the sound of a shuffling noise. Layla felt a little uneasy.

Jargos turned and growled at the noise, bearing his fangs and tensing his hands to ready his claws

Layla pulled her cloak back over her head and held her staff out. "I'm really glad I did training for the last seventy or so years."

He dropped to all fours, his claws digging into the stone street as if it were butter. He barked out, coaxing whatever made the noise to reveal itself

Layla could sense the shadowy figures rising from the darkness. Layla lit a white sphere in her hand. "They don't like the light. It's the one thing that protects us, I'm sure. We're made of Light, while they aren't. And they'd give anything to drain that from us."

Jargos ignited his firepower, creating a brilliant light, then he lunged at the creature. A dog fight began

Layla started attacking the shadows that opposed her. The rune on her hand glowed, as did her staff. She was able to put out the light in her hand to fight and still have something shining in the darkness.

"I may see darkness, but that doesn't mean it controls me."

Jargos' ferocity had not dulled over the years, it had in fact, increased. He tore and slashed at the dark being

Layla suddenly felt herself surrounded. She laughed quietly to herself. "I've got more than enough tricks up my sleeve to handle you all." She extinguished the light of her staff and rune to briefly focus her magic. "Even I've learned a few things I can say I rarely use."

Jargos created a heat shimmer and eradicated the shadow creature he was fighting was a powerful roar

As she focused her magic, markings start to appear on Layla's body. They glow white and her eyes correspond with the same color. "One hundred years ago, I couldn't control this power. Now, aging at one-twenty-five, I can."

Jargos howled out, signaling being impressed, then he attacked another shadow

When Layla was ready, she started forming what appeared like white water or ice in her hand. She drew the power around her and elegantly let it encircle her before using it as an attack.
