"The best thing to do is to study our foe. I'll be right there when you need me" He promised her


He chuckled a bit, still blushing. "So, what's life like where you live?"

"I'd rather be the one to go study them than anyone else because, obviously, my magic is stronger than Lunalia's. If I stay on my guard, I'll be able to resist anything they do. I'm blind, not stupid." Layla put a hand to her locket, remembering a day from long ago. "I have no wishes to join my family. Not yet."

"It's pretty simple in my home. All of us have our own little jobs we do to keep things running in the village. I followed in my great-grandmother's footsteps and learned how to be a medic. I was learning her techniques from a scroll she had written. What about you? What's it like in the Southern Forest?"

"I understand, my friend" Jargos reassured her


"It's really nice. We live by the law of the forest, which means that we don't lie, cheat, steal, or kill without a reason. We don't go to war, don't start fights, and keep what we kill. We hunt and work during the day, then celebrate life at night. I am to become the Lord of Darkwoods, a guardian with no equal in strength, but I don't think I can do it" Kreig told Luna

Layla had more she wished to say, but for the time being she wished to keep it quiet. She gave a soft smile to Jargos, glad to be with him once more.

"I believe you can. I mean, I may not know Jargos like Grandmother Layla does, but I believe you can do anything if you put your mind to it. If you have the will to do something, you'll achieve it if you follow through."

Jargos gave her a soft growl, letting her know he enjoyed her company



Kreig was happy she believed in him, but he knew she was wrong. How could he possibly hope to ascend to the level Jargos had achieved? He smiled at Luna, for she was kind to him.

"What made you want to be a medic?"

Luna said to Kreig, "My great-grandmother, Theresa, was a medic of Zeiza before being appointed leader. Grandmother Layla defeated Ramona in a battle against the Dark Magi when they took over. Theresa knew magic beyond what I know, and I wanted to learn. Every team needs a medic, and, to my understanding, Grandmother did not finish her medical training. She became a village Warrior instead."

"I see. Well, that makes sense. I'm glad that you can heal people" Kreig told Luna

Luna smiled. After a moment, she said, "Ah, Garlan. I'm glad to finally come back here."

"You've been here before?" Kreig asked her, he was jealous, he had never been outside of Darkwoods until yesterday

"A few times for errands. After the passing of the previous king, he made sure that the connection to Zeiza stayed open. I was often sent to deliver letters when needed."

"That's awesome!" He told her, then he realized he had gotten really close and her scent was overwhelming him. He backed up quickly, blushing again

Luna had a bit of a puzzled look and then glanced up into the sky. "It's nearly evening."

Kreig looked up as well. His blush faded as he shuddered a bit, not wanting night to come


Jargos looked onward

Within moments, Luna stated, "We've reached the gates of Garlan."

Kreig nodded as Jargos lead Layla onward

Layla could feel a chill come over her as the hour of twilight rose over the lands. "Either we can rent a room or see if we still have some connections with the new king of Garlan."

"We should rent a room for the night, we don't want to seem too bold" Jargos suggested. Kreig stayed quiet

Layla nodded. Luna offered to lead the way. "I carried all of my savings on me in the case we'd need it for this. I'll rent out two rooms."

Jargos nodded, but he was planning to pay for the rooms. He had some money left from his travels 100 years ago. Jargos and Kreig walked with the women

After getting rooms rented out, Layla stated, "Even though we're here in Garlan, we still need to be watching for anything." She realized what she said, then added, "Or sensing. Whatever works best."

"Agreed" Kreig stated "Who's sleeping where? I need to go out and get some supplies, I just want to know for when I get back"

Layla had no comment.

"Well, if you guys want, we can split it up like this. Jargos and Layla can stay in one room, Kreig and I in another, or we can break it by gender."

Jargos nodded "The first works for me, but it's up to you guys" He waited for Layla to translate


"That's fine by me. I'll be back soon" He headed out of the inn to go find the supplies he needed

Layla translated for Jargos and Luna nodded.

"Alright, I'm packing it in early then. Night, you two." She went into the room next door.

Layla opened up the other room and walked in. She hung up the cloak and sat down.

Jargos sat down on his bed, his runes still glowing red


Kreig found what he was looking for at a small shop, some food and some tools. He went back to the inn and found his room with Luna. He waved when he came into the room then sat down the supplies on the table
