Destiny of Light

"Maybe we should get some rest. It'll be a long walk tomorrow if we go the entire day."

"Sounds good to me" Jargos said. Kreig nodded

Layla tried to get comfortable and sleep. It took her some time before she could, however.

Kreig was unable to sleep, but Jargos was exhausted and passed out quickly

During the night, Layla felt something strange nearby. She could've almost sworn she heard a voice whispering into her dreams. The vision from the night before returned.

Kreig saw a shadow moving in the dark and ran after it

Jargos slept like a rock

The voice grew louder in her ears until it forced her awake. She sensed something. Walking further in to the forest, making sure to memorize her way to get back, she tried to trace the strange being.

Kreig was hunting the shadow when a breeze blew the scent away and the trail went cold. He cursed under his breath and started heading back to camp

Layla continued on the search. "I know you're out here. Come out!" she called. She knew a shadow was near. "I'm blind, not stupid."

Kreig heard a woman's voice coming from the other side of the camp, but the individual was down wind, assuming he even knew who it was, he couldn't smell them and be sure

The creature came face to face with her. It murmured strange words in her ears. "Die, creature!" she stated. A white misty ball formed in her hands. As she went to thrust it into the creature, it countered it and blast her backwards. She ended up into combat.

Kreig heard something and ran in the direction of the noise

The creature put a hand to her chest and pushed her against the tree behind her. Something had stunned her. The words became audible in her mind.

"The shadows will cloud your mind in the darkness of your eyes and shroud over your partners. It will spread over the land and consume the helpless souls of all. Nothing can fight it. Not even you."

"L-leave me alone."

"Ha! You believe mere words will stop us?"

She couldn't move and didn't know what to do. Layla was already exhausted and it didn't give aid to her powers. Never once had she shown weakness, and she wouldn't do it today. A white aura began to surround her and it began to burn the hand of the creature.

"Feisty. You'll certainly be fun to chase in the future." The creature was aware that back-up was on the way. "We'll meet again." It faded away into the twilight.

Kreig snarled out as he leaped into the clearing, stopping when he saw Layla, he rushed to he side to aid her

"Are you okay? What happened?"

"The Shadows. That's what happened." After pulling her bangs out of her face, she said, "I'm alright. At least, now that that thing is gone."

Kreig felt awful, he left her and Jargos un-guarded. Not that they had asked, it's just, he wanted to be helpful and he just blew it. Silently, he offered her a hand getting back to camp

Layla accepted his hand. "Listen, don't feel so bad about what happened. I can tell you're tense. I may be blind, but I'm not an idiot. I don't have to see your face to know how you feel. Call it a bit of empathy, if you want."

"I'm off to great start defending people in need. I don't even know what I'm fighting. How can Jargos call me his equal, were he not exhausted, he would have been here in the blink of an eye and made sure you were unharmed. I've so much to learn, it's daunting beyond anything I ever imagined. His very aura sends shivers up my spine, such is his power. But enough of my pity party, Let's get to camp" He silenced himself, too ashamed to speak as he lead the way

Layla didn't want to leave the statement as it was, but there was little more she could say. "I'm just telling you. Things are going to happen. Don't hate yourself for them. Move on from it."

Kreig said nothing, and soon, they were back at camp, Jargos lightly snoring. He guided her back to him before heading to the fire to think

Layla soon went back to sleep with ease. Though, her concern over Kreig continued. She only hoped he wouldn't let the burden he had keep him from sleeping.

Jargos awoke in the morning with his usual sounds. Kreig was out like a light

Layla woke up shortly after Jargos did. The events from the previous night were fresh in her mind, but she put it behind her for the day ahead.

Jargos yawned and soon Kreig awoke. Jargos readied himself for the day, Kreig did as well.

Layla prepared for the day ahead and made sure she had all the things on her belt she needed.
