Misunderstood Destinies

"I should probably elaborate a bit. These tests will send bits of energy within you to see if you wield magic, if so then how much, and if not then if you could contain it. Physical capabilities mean if your body could handle that kind of energy within you without destabilizing or corrupting. The magical capabilities are, if you can hold that kind of energy, then how much and specifically what abilities."

"So, my body can hold magic? I could have told thee this information, my runes are magic"

"Your magic comes from ancient power. Power from that time and power from today's generation have changed. Of course, there are some that still have access to the ancient ways. Today's magical capacities are not like those of the past. There's advantages and disadvantages."

"Will thou elaborate?"

"The structures of magic change upon the continuation of the generations. Powers of the ancients were much stronger than those of today. Some powers were transferred, passed down, and so on.

Layliana, for example, has an ancient power of our people. From whom she inherited from we do not know, but we do know she can use magic from today's time and that from before. The only downside, and I know this because I've seen her use that ability, is that when she uses it she is severely weakened by its force and pressure on her body. We tested her with that power to confirm it was one she could hold on to and use properly. The first time she ever used it left her suspended from duty for a few days to recover. I do not know how often she has used it now, but she has gotten stronger.

As time passes, so does our body capacities of magic and magic's structure itself. You would think the wielders of ancient magic could just as easily use today's. Well, it's not like that. Theorists are trying to figure out what is underneath it all. But, with tests like these, we can find out who can hold magic and just how much."

"Can the tests thou preform tell how much energy lie dormant within one? To understand the ancient magic of my people, thou shall need to understand how much I am able to use"

"I can already tell you that the readings are off of my charts. Wherever you come from, I'm fairly sure you're probably the strongest of your people. I haven't seen readings like this in some time."

"Hm, and what else dose thou think I need to know?"

The lights of the circle faded. "Only that you've been confirmed to be able to hold magic, like that of most people here in Zeiza, and that, with some practice of controlling it, you could use it like all of us can. For example, if someone were to give you a power that wasn't fully developed you could contain it easily and develop it to your body and such."

"Hm . . ." Jargos thought, his mind a blur of choices

Layla came back in the room, sure that the test results had come.

"Jargos, Master, how did the results come out?"

Jargos nodded to her when she entered, then stepped out of the circle, then went back to thinking

"The results came out both positive, Layliana." He stopped his pacing around the circle. "If someone offers him an ability, he's free to receive or deny as he pleases now that he's been confirmed to be able to stay stable with one."

Jargos kept thinking, not sure what to do next

"To be honest," Layla said. "I really think he should carry one with him in the case something happens."

"It's his choice, but who would offer it?"

"If my thinks it best, it shall be done, but only if another willingly gives up such power can I wield it."

"I can offer you one of mine. My powers are still developing, and the older I get then the more I'll have access to."

"Layliana, do you even have any magic that you could offer?"

"My fire and earth abilities are enhancing slowly. My shield, however, is the most stable out of them both. I know that in time I'll have more at my disposal. Losing one this early isn't much of a threat."

Jargos looked into Layla's eyes, his gaze soft, yet strong

"If thou wishes it"

Layla nodded. "I can fight long-range compared to you. Should you run into another being like before, it may come to your aid. There's only three I can offer at this current time, and its your choice to choose."

"I choose the magic of fire" He stated

Layla nodded. "Master Bias,"

"Before anything, Layliana. Are you sure you can handle this? You know the situation we discussed upon your joining."

"I'll be fine. Contact the elders and tell them we need a potion specially made. A transference potion rather than a stripping one. If you can't reach them then Mother has the recipe."

"Of course. I'll be back momentarily."

"I thank thee for thine help, my friend" He nodded to here, then let his runes glow again

"You need the protection, and I already have an ability that protects me when I remember to use it. To be honest, potions like these are just as powerful as stripping potions which is why they have to be made in such a way that it doesn't do the same effect. I've never had to use one, and I've never known anyone to need one."

Jargos sniffed the air, then let a rumble from his chest loose. Something was wrong

"What's wrong, Jargos?" Master Bias returned fairly quick.

"Special shortcut from here to the elders hut. Take the back road. They had a spare potion, but they're out of ingredients to make it especially designed for you. You're going to have to use a general one since this is a bit of an emergency item."
