Misunderstood Destinies

"My magic slowly improves, however the magic I used yesterday was an art that most Warriors learn early. In the case we are in emergency, we can call upon the powers of our ancestors. However, I had already used a releasing spell on you twice and it made it harder for me to hold a barrier." She leaned up against a wall, putting her foot against it. "There's only so much I can do, however. I've reached my limit for a while, but my magic is returning slowly."

Jargos looked down, feeling bad that he had caused such a problem for her. He knew that he had to fight off the next problem on his own.

"Jargos," she said. She walked over to the bedside and placed the staff against the wall. "Do not worry for my powers. I'm trained to aid, even if it takes up my powers. I can sense you are concerned. Fret not, for as it isn't necessary."

"And yet I fret. Thou must understand, I was raised to take care of my own being, and never ask for help. I have burdened thee, but I shall be of aid. Thou art most kind, fair elf Layla." He spoke with an air of calm around him. He seemed too kind and gentle to even hurt a fly, yet she had seen his dark side try to break free.

He did well to keep himself composed. Seeing as she did not ask of his runes, he did not tell her that the rune on his back released his most primal and ferocious power, but it would mean no control. Everything would be destroyed, yet as the strongest of his people, he was also their guardian and had to have access to a power no other could match.

"Well, do not put such a feeling upon yourself. It is all fine. Though, I would like to ask if you knew the mage that controlled you. When you were nearby, I sensed a darkness around you. I wanted to contain your body with its own aura, but the mage was too powerful for even I."

"Nay, I knew not the mage, but my aura couldn't contain me while my will was so weakened."

"Perhaps someone is after you then. You really should come with me to Zeiza some day in the case that this is true. I can tell that magic is not your strongest point, and I might be able to help you should a time arise that you need a sorcerer of some sort."

"Yes, but whom? I have no quarrel with anyone I know of. I shall go with you" He said, then his stomach growled. He seemed rather embarrassed

"Then I will let my mother know to alert the Elders of your arrival with me upon return. Outsiders, like I said, are not normally allowed. But I'm sure I can get you an exception. Take the food while its hot. I've already eaten my share of the evening."

Layla sat down on the bed and began forming a white sphere in her hands.

Jargos nodded and ate the food, while he observed the ball in her hands

Layla smiled to him. A voice was faintly heard from the sphere. It became clearer. "Layliana! Thank heavens you called. I began to get worried."

"No need for worry, Mother-Dearest. I'm perfectly fine."

"That's good. Now, why did you call?"

"I need you to give a message to Elder Ramona for me."

"What is it?"

"There's a creature I've met in the forests, Jargos, and I need to request a session with the elder. I believe something is going on within the lands and it's worth talking to her about. The guardians of the gate will take him down if I do not bring warning."

"Layliana, you are aware that an outsider hasn't been allowed here for generations?"

"Mother, he was attacked by a dark wielder."

"Oh dear... Well, I'll request a court with her. When you return, I should have a time set for you."

"Very well. Thank you, Mother. Please send my love to Airen. He often worries much when I leave home."

Her mother laughed. "This is true. All right, my daughter. I'll send off your request."

The sphere collapsed as she closed her hands together, closing the connection.

Jargos was amazed at the sphere


"Thou can summon the voices of others to speak with them, Wondrous" He smiled, then finished off the food. He stood up, then sat down on the floor by the foot of the bed before lying back to relax

"We will need to leave by noon tomorrow to arrive before the evening. I will need to show the way or you will lose your way on the climb. If we are separated, then the mountain will return you to the base. If that is the case, I will return to find you. Once we have arrived at the gate, I will open it. It's protected by the most powerful magic of the Elders Union. Not once has it ever been broken by brute force."

Jargos felt tempted to try when they got there, but knew that would be horribly rude and quickly swept the thought away. He agreed to what Layla said

Layla glanced outside at the moon. It was now high in the sky. "The hour upon us is late. Perhaps its best to rest. Though we do not have to awaken early, it's still a rough trip."

Jargos nodded, and bid her a good night. He laid down on the floor and soon found sleep

Layliana soon laid in bed and fell asleep.

Jargos didn't dream, but he felt uneasy. He couldn't explain it, and didn't honestly want to try.

When it was nearly dawn, Layla woke up and thought she heard footsteps.

Jargos was still fast asleep when Layla awoke. He wasn't dreaming, but had dreamt that night of being in a fine robe, sitting at a large table with many kind people around him feasting on a marvelous meal. He almost started to cry from joy and sorrow. He was so happy to see these people glad, but knew it wouldn't happen

Layla stood up quietly and put an ear to the door. She assumed it was patrolmen outside.

Jargos yawned and stretched, moving Layla's bed with ease with his stray right arm. He slowly started to get up, his body making all kinds of strange sounds

Layla had not been used to a creature like Jargos, thus the sounds did startle her a bit. Though, it was a bit of a wake up call for her. It was nearing morning.

As Jargos pulled off an canid style stretch on all fours and got up, he sniffed the air. He kept sniffing and soon his nose lead him to the door when Layla was.

"Good morning" He whispered, then pointed at the door with a claw "There are knights outside. They reek of that type of drink normal people use. It makes them act all odd." He whipspered, then backed away from the door and moved her bad back into place

"In my home, we only drink beverages called wine on special occasions. It is not a common thing. Mother says it's to avoid alcoholism. I've seen what it can do to a person. Toys with their mind and gives them false thinking. These men must have an addiction of some sort. Practice such as that is forbidden where I come from."
