Destiny of Light

Layla kept the book beside her as she fell asleep. With the chance of enemies attacking Garlan overnight, she didn't want to take the risk that someone steal the book.

Jargos fell asleep fast, and Kreig began another bout of nightmares

Layla and Luna slept calmly through the night.

Kreig awoke before the morning light, once more in a cold sweat, trembling, fear running through his veins. He left the inn, not so much as a note telling where he'd gone

Layla woke up shortly after dawn the following morning. The book was still in the place she left it.

Jargos awoke with his normal sounds

Luna woke up that morning with surprise. Kreig was gone. She walked next door, aware that Jargos was up already and knocked. She didn't want to enter without them knowing she was there. Layla opened the door.

"Luna, what's wrong?" Concern was on Luna's face.

"Kreig is gone. I don't know when he left, but he isn't here."

Jargos looked at Luna puzzled, it didn't sound like Kreig to leave without warning

Layla looked at Jargos. "We better split up and start a search party."

"I think you're right, something's off" Jargos stood up and got ready to leave

Layla grabbed her staff and put the book back in the bag. "I'll carry the book with me in the bag. Leaving it here is just going to make it open to get stolen, and that's the last thing we need."

"Agreed, let's go" Jargos lead the way out of the inn



Kreig was in a trance-like state, his runes glowing blue. He was standing in the middle of the woods, shadows encircling him

"Where to?" Layla asked.

"I won't know 'till I can pick up his scent"




Where fear once resided in him, now only primal fury remained, and as soon as one of the shadows launched forward to attack, he snapped into action. With bared fangs and bared claws, he struck shadow after shadow, fighting relentlessly. His runes a glowing crimson and his eyes seemed crystalline. Without shifting into his predatory state, he was doing poorly, there were too many, and that's what he wanted

Layla tightened her grip on the shoulder-bag holding the book. Luna listened closely. "The birds. They've gone silent."

"There! I've gotten his scent, let's hurry!" Jargos said as he ran off




Kreig was getting himself handed to, and each hit made him even more seething.

Layla and Luna dashed off with Jargos.

Jargos came to a cliff that overlooked the clearing where Kreig was fighting

"What is that fool doing?!"



Kreig moved like a red blur of claws and fangs, but for every shadow he destroyed, three more rose from the ground

"I don't know, but we probably should go down there. It doesn't look like anything good to me," Layla stated.

"Go down there? What for?" A lupine voice came from behind them

Jargos turned to see an old friend, the aged wolf

Layla looked to see the wolf behind them. "Don't I know you from somewhere?" Layla asked.

Luna was unsure as to what was going on.

"Layliana, I'm hurt, can't you remember me?" The wolf spoke in the language of the beasts


Kreig continued his fight

Layla thought back for just a moment. "Of course! Now I remember you. I'm terribly sorry. It's been quite some time, hasn't it?" She laughed a bit. "I don't know how I could've forgotten you."

"It's okay, it's not everyday that you meet a friend from a hundred years ago" The wolf said "Now, why are you thinking of going down there?"


"He's going to die!" Jargos stated

Layla looked down below. She put her hand to the latch of the bag. The words of Raven's final moments came to her mind. "Going down there and fighting against them is about pointless. It's going to get us killed. Of course, there is another method we could try."
