Destiny of Light

"Are you okay?" he asked as he sat down in his bed

"Yeah, just a little shaken up. I haven't seen any kind of death in a long time. I'm glad to get my vision back. I've wanted it for a century now. But I didn't expect to see the death of my own teacher. " She sighed. "Of course I'm thankful for everything. I just wish I could've been there to drag him away."

"I'm so sorry, Layliana"

Layla sighed. "He said something before we left. It was in my people's language. He said, 'The book will set you free,' so I was aware that he wasn't going to make it through to some sub-conscious level. That's why I took the bag with me." She found several items in the bag, one of which was a leather bound book with a ribbon for a marker inside one of the pages.

"What do you think he meant?"


Kreig was still having horrid nightmares

"I don't know, but he left a few things for me to take with us." She opened up the marked page. There was a bunch of symbols on that page and the next few pages after it. She started looking through it. "It's written by Raven. I know his handwriting. He wrote this in Elven, wanting to avoid anyone stealing information and giving it to the enemy."

"I see, that's a good idea"

"Give me a little while to translate this. I learned how to read it a long time ago, but it's been a while since I've been in contact with anyone that knew how to speak or read it. It shouldn't take long for me to pick it back up again."

"Alright"


Kreig slowly woke up, but he was in a cold sweat and shaking a bit

Luna, who had been daydreaming a bit since they split up the rooms, asked, "Are you alright?"

He looked over at her and blushed. He must've looked like a fool at that moment. Trying to pick himself up, he nodded to her, brushing off his exhaustion

"I'm okay. You?"

Luna replied, "I'm fine. Glad to be off the island, though. Layla isn't sure as to how long it'll take for the shadows to reach us, but she expects it within a few days."

Layla continued reading through the pages, trying to remember what each symbol stood for.

Kreig hoped he would be ready, he couldn't believe that he failed. He stood up, and although a little wobbly, he began to pace the room

Layla soon was able to piece everything together and pick up the language again. "I think I've got it."

Jargos was ready to listen

Kreig sighed and went back to his bed

Layla went and read through the pages.
"To Layliana and fellow friends,

If you're reading this now, then it most likely means that I did not make it through the fight against the foul creatures in getting all of you off the island. I expected it to happen. Nicca is no longer a safe place to be. I gathered all the information I could about these creatures and put it into this book overnight. I've been sensing danger coming since your arrival.

To explain some events from the past, I'm a seer to some extent. I knew when the darkness would be going to Garlan and thus trained Layliana to fight while blind; however, I am now in the understanding that her vision is back and will give more of a fighting chance. Now, I need to explain what I saw. From what I can understand, someone has called upon a forbidden spell that was lost ages ago. I'm sure that Jargos is aware of the capabilities of this spell as well seeing as his people have been around longer than the elves -- if not, then just as long -- have been able to record.

I've put in this book all I know about them, which isn't much. Just something from some old books that I picked up ages ago.

There is something I must write here before I become too exhausted to continue. To Layliana: I spoke to the spirit that saved your life. She came to me after finishing with you and Jargos. There is still a power that is left to awaken within your grand-daughter, Lunalia. She is meant to be a healer, and there is something she can learn that will heal anyone that touches the foul material. In time, she will unlock it on her own. Forcing it will only hurt her and push her away from it.

I'm sorry for leaving all of you in the manner that was done, but I did what I needed to get all of you to safety. The book will set you all free.

When darkness surrounds your soul and blinds you at night, open the book with hope and it will guide you into the light."

Kreig looked at Luna, then closed his eyes, drifting off



Jargos nodded

Layla browsed through the book, looking at the diagrams and such in the pages. "Supposedly, long ago, there was a spell that summoned the Earth's most dreaded evil known as the Shadows. These creatures are basically reflected off of the dark side of every person. If we can find the source of the spell, and break it, then we can stop the rise of the shadows. The person that cast this, however, has to be very powerful. That's what I'm assuming."

Jargos nodded

Layla started thinking. "Who do we know that would even try the spell?"

"I can't think of anyone"

Layla sighed. "Nor can I." She laid back on the bed with the book next to her. "I mean, giving up the book to find the source obviously is the worst idea we could do. Everything is in here that we're going to need to refer back to."

"Agreed, but I think rest is in order. We can't do much half conscious" Jargos said. He got up and sat next to Layla to give her a hug

Layla sat up and hugged Jargos. Being by his side and able to see him once more had comforted her. She was glad that things were semi-normal again.

Jargos got up, then went to lay down in his bed
