Misunderstood Destinies

He forced himself to one knee. He growled and snarled


"One must look into one's self and see the inner self within. Close you eyes and imagine swimming through you own body. Make that thought real. Swim with your mind into your soul"

Layla closed her eyes, trying to imagine what Jargos told her. It felt like the deeper she went the darker it was. She knew she was still concerned for the events of the brawl outside of Zeiza, and of those of Airen. She opened her eyes. "My thoughts are still crowded with concern and worry. I can't see anything right now." Layla knew if she didn't learn to let go soon then she'd become to cold in her heart to revive herself from it. "I've never been one known to let go easy. Hence why I avoid pain and only inflict in defense."

Jargos held out his hand, though it was shaking. His runic light began to form a person, and it looked like a little boy. Layla could recognize it as a very young Jargos made from light and runes, He spoke

"Please take my hand, I'll be a guide for thou" He spoke in a soft and gentle voice, unlike Jargos' deep and slightly rasped voice

At first not willing in slight fear of what she'd find, she took Jargos' hand. "This really has me on edge."

The boy spoke once more

"Fear not, I shall protect thee" He held her hand and slowly melted into her rune

Layla had never seen magic, if it was called magic, she thought, for the power of the Runes, like this before. She tried to close her eyes again to focus.

When she did, the image of the little boy glowed in the dark, making it bright and warm and welcoming. It felt comfortable to be there.

As Layla could imagine herself there, she tried to reach out for him. She fought back the thoughts from before to try to catch up to him.

She didn't have to work hard, he came to her and held her hand, then slowly started to let them both sink. He was giving her reassuring words and comforting her along the way


"Thou has nothing to fear, Thou shall be safe"

Layla nodded, feeling a bit more confident. "Where are we going?" she asked.

The little boy giggled a bit, then let them sink a bit faster until a figure started coming into view below them. The boy's bright glow illuminated the darkness in her soul

Layla could see an animal figure below them. The animal was a wolf. Its pelt was silver-white, like that of Layla's hair. Its eyes were cerulean to match hers. A strange glow surrounded the creature. "I think I see something, Jargos."

"Oh, pretty puppy!" The young boy guided her to the ground, and in a moment, they were face to face with the silver wolf

Layla noted how the wolf was surely large, almost like the size of a beast. The wolf began to speak, and Layla found it strange that she could understand the creature. "Greetings, Layliana, Jargos."

"You... you know my name?"

"Of course I do. Dear, I am your inner self. Or, at least, a reflection of it is how I'm sure you'd rather put it."

The young boy nodded, a silly smile on his face

Layla was a bit confused at Jargos' change since they ventured to... Well, whatever location they were in.

"Tell me, Layliana, how long have you had your newly found powers?"

"... A few days, I suppose."

"I see. Are you aware of my purpose?"

"To some extent."

The young boy still smiled

The wolf circled around Layla. She could sense something that made her feel uneasy. Never had she had that feeling before during her travels.

"You have faced recent inner and outer conflict, correct? Explain."

"A brawl with my village and my loved one. Both led to disaster and forced me to exile, basically."

"I see. You request the use of the Rune, but you are still troubled emotionally by this. Gaining the right of the power requires you clear thinking. Which, at this point in time, you do not have."

Layla turned to Jargos, as if wondering something.

He smiled and nodded, then motioned for her to come to him

Layla walked over to him, feeling safer by his side than the wolf.

He floated up and whispered into her ear

"Don't be scared, Show the wolf that you're "Top Dog"" He giggled a bit "The wolf won't ever try to hurt you, but it has to know you're in charge" He finished, reassuring her as best he could

Walked back to the wolf. "I'm willing to try, despite the disadvantage." She stood in a defensive position, ready to switch to attacking when the first move was made.

"You can do it!" Cried the little boy

Layla tried to put away her fears and doubts. "Come at me."

The wolf nodded, then moved forward quickly, aiming to ram Layliana
