Shannon made it to Cathain's door.
"Cathain, can we talk?"
"No, Shannon."
"Cathain, I'm worried about you. Something's not right. Will you just let me in?"
"I told you already. No."
"Then let me tell you something. You and I have a promise to keep. Remember?"
A silence came over the two. Moments later, Cathain opened the door and let Shannon come inside.

"Whatever, I'll let those two work it out. I can't take action until asked or required, and nobody needs saving and the situation does not require manipulation to keep the path of the plan stable."

"Cathain, we need to talk."

"What's this about?"

"I'm getting worried about you, Cathain. XANA has been acting strange lately, and it just so happens that you have too."

"Do you really think that I'm XANA?"

"Well, no. I'm just worried that he's done something to you. I'm afraid
of it. I'm afraid that one day, we may end up in a fight where one of
us are going to end up killed by the others hand. If something ever
happened to you, Cathain, I'd blame myself for not protecting you. I
know that no one else has, and so I know that it's also my job to
protect you. You're not alone when it comes to Lyoko. You're not alone
now."

"Shannon--"

"No, let me talk. Cathain, we have a promise to keep to each other. You
promised you'd be there for me when I was afraid, and that I'd be there
for you when you felt alone. I know you feel this way now. But, I can't
watch XANA take you when you're in this situation. I know, now more
than ever, you feel alone. I'll be there for you, as long as you'll be
here for me. I can't go at it alone, and I know you can't either. I
know XANA is playing with your life, and I won't watch you die. Ever
since your first trip to Lyoko, you haven't been the same. I'm not
going to sit here and watch you commit suicide of someone's will over
yours." Shannon was nearly in tears. "I won't let you take the poisoned
dagger because of someone else. This isn't Shakespeare, Cathain. There
isn't a romeo here to save you. XANA is toying with you, and waiting
for you to weaken so he can take over. One of three things will happen.
You'll lose your sanity, he'll take over, or you'll trust me. Choose,
Cathain!"

Ryou smiled. "Perfect timing, Shannon. I ain't some stinking romeo, but saving others is the least I can do--" Ryou slammed down the enter button as he maliciously smiled. "Mode C, go!"

Cathain held back the emotions she wanted to release out on Shannon. Anger, sadness, happiness. Somehow, she felt all three. Cathain sat down on her bed to avoid much contact with Shannon to sort out her head. She hugged Cathain, whispering in her ear. "I'm only trying to help."

Cathain heard the voice. She paused. Shannon glanced at her, wondering what was wrong.
"What is it?"
"I keep hearing something. I think my ears are ringing."

Shannon replied, "What's it saying?"
"I'm not entirely sure. I don't know whether or not to trust it."

Ryou's voice suddenly mixed in, "Yo Cathain, resist with your own power."

Cathain paced a bit. Shannon gave her a signal to sit and calm down.
"Cathain, what do you think you should do?"
"I used to meditate to help solve my problems."
"Then try that."

Cathain meditated, looking for an answer. Shannon stood up, trying to avoid bothering her.
"Give me an idea of what the voices are asking for," she thought. "I don't understand."

Cathain couldn't understand the power concept. When the dark voice repeated its statement, she wouldn't listen to it. Inside, she felt a tightening.
"Cathain, you alright?"

Ryou's voice spoke louder, "Don't listen to the voice inside you, but the one outside you! The power inside you is the one you want to get rid of!"

Cathain felt odd. Shannon had been right when she said that she thought XANA had hid himself within Cathain. Shannon immediately took Cathain's hands.
"Cathain, I knew this was going to happen. You've got to fight him off before he takes over you."
"Shannon, he won't leave me alone."
"You have to tell him to."
"I'll stay with you, even if something happens."

Mode C began to activate. Ryou maliciously smiled as he thought, "C is for Chaos."

Cathain's chest tightened. Shannon hugged her.
"Cathain, calm down."
"I've got to talk to him. On Lyoko."
"If you go, he's going to have you killed."
"Then it'll be a battle to the death of one of us."
"There's no way I'll let you go. That's just crazy."

Ryou smiled. Everything was going to plan. The antidote was in her body, forming the key.

Cathain saw a black figure form in the air, taking the form of her body. Its eyes turned red.
"Shannon, get back. This is my fight."

The figure suddenly vanished as the key became settled within Cathy.

Cathain and Shannon were thankful for the most part. Cathain was still calming down, but she was alright.
