| Zelda turned her attention back to Maya.
"Listen to me, Maya. Okay? Just listen to me. I'm going to try to help channel your powers. I can't do much until you calm down. Look, they're not going to hurt you. Alan and Heron are out there fighting back whatever is there. He's trying to open the Gate. And if he passes through, he can destroy it. I have a feeling that's his goal. If you can close it, maybe he will give it up. You've got to try."

| Just as Maya was getting her control, she felt an immense pain.
"Something... someone is closing it. Forcing it."
"Who? Who is?"
"This... This time... I'll handle it."
Maya vanished, and reappeared at the Gate. She saw a figure in the distance, who she assumed was trying to force the Gate closed. The Gate hadn't even closed, however, Maya assumed someone was trying to close it.
"Maya, that's insane! If you throw that, you're going to hit Alan and kill him!"
Maya's voice had darkened slightly, and Zelda knew that the spirit that was truly attacking the Gate had already found its way into her earlier, which explained her sudden statement of it closing.
"Don't make me do this, Maya, er, Shadow."
"Try me."
As the Shadow filled the sphere with a Black Energy and prepared to aim it at Alan, Zelda immediately ran up to it, placing her hand onto the sphere, as it suddenly blasted both Zelda and Shadow-Maya with both energies within it.

| Alan sensed the spirit's presence as the seal activated. The black ink-like substance traveled from below Alan across the wet, swamp-like ground. The black ink-like substance burned a mark into her arm. "RELEASE!" Alan yelled as his hair spiked up, feeling the energy take over. Attempting to control the power, Alan clutched the ground as he meditated, holding the power in place. "SUPPRESS!" Alan yelled again as the black ink--like substance crawled into the mark on Maya's arm. "ACTIVATE!" Alan yelled, his breathing slowing down to its normal pace. "I hate having to use my level 10 powers." Alan mumbled as he tried to regain his breath. Maya was floating in mid-air as the spirit was removed from her body, as the upgraded seal Alan placed rejected manipulation from external forces, such as the spirit.The spirit aimed for Alan to finish him of. A sword, made entirely from wind, formed in Alan's hand as he sliced the spirit in half. The background faded as it soon returned. The four were back in the room from before, the enemy dead and Maya's seal, upgraded.

"Black energy?" Heron asked.
"A load of it. I can't contain it like she can. When I get hit by it, I have to hold back or it attacks me from the inside out. I can reject it when I have the power to."
