Just another day in the Apocalypse

Time: 1:40
Location: 16th street mall, Denver Colorado


Keith walked down the busy street, hands in his pockets. Life wasn't all that bad, but recent events had him down. No job meant no money, no money meant he would lose his car soon, no car meant he wouldn't be able to get a new job, viscous circle. Taking walks helped him calm down, but it never really made him happy. He hated to admit it, but he was only happy when he was fighting, which was bad, seeing as he always wanted to fight but that wasn't how the world worked. He sighed a bit and tilted his head back as he walked. It was a beautiful day and he was happy for that.



Marc sulked at his desk. His boss was giving Jenifer his raise, again! It was infuriating, every time he earned something, Jenifer or some other fluke got it instead. Marc stormed out on to the street, cursing under his breath. His tie was perfect, his shoes, his shirt, everything, but he still never got his way, and he was more than sick of it

She was mostly silent, alert. Dare walked the streets of Colorado alone ever since she left WOOTU. Only the heavens knew if the project still existed in the undergrounds of the city streets. She was one of the few who made it out without her name all over the place, but even still she kept her voice down. Dare wasn't an idiot. She knew ways to get around. Ever since her coworker decided to take matters to the next level, she kept a pistol right handy on her belt. It was concealed under her long coat for any day that she needed it most.

Time: 2:00

Keith stops in front of the World Trade Center and takes a seat on the steps. Relaxing for a moment, he was jolted from his relaxation at the sound of sirens. Looking up, he saw an ambulance fly by, racing to the hospital. He raised an eyebrow, but shrugged it off. He didn't see the blood in the windshield, or the screaming EMT driving with blood gushing from her neck. The ambulance crashed into the McDonald on the opposite corner. Keith started to get up, rushing to help


Marc heard the ambulance and immediately ran in the opposite direction, speeding to his car. He pulled his .45 from the glove compartment and hid it under shirt at the small of his back. Marc could hear the crash and the screaming, and decided now was a good time to get in his car and go back home

Dare saw the crash, as she was just around the corner, and hurried along the path to get to the crash and help anyone that needed it. People were fleeing the building in fear and panic.

Keith pulled out his pocket knife and used the window smasher to crush the glass on the driver side window, only now seeing all the blood. As soon as the glass was crushed, he heard the screaming and and saw the man gorging on the now dead EMT's neck. Keith staggered back, his eyes wide, unsure of what to do. The man's face was cut up and his skin was discolored, on top of the fact he was eating the woman's neck.

Marc jumped onto the highway, speeding home

Dare, at a bit of a distance, spots the bodies of what appears to be zombies. A rising fear comes to her chest. "I was afraid of this..." she murmurs. She spots the random guy, Keith, and yells, "Get back! Quickly!" She pulls her pistol from her belt and keeps it at the ready.

Keith grited his teeth, his pulse raising and a surge of adrenaline flowing through him. He fliped open his knife, holding it down-blade. Hearing the order of the woman, his soldier instincts kicked in and he back stepped a bit


Marc was a lead-foot, but something ahead of him forced him to slam on the breaks. There was a massive pile-up . . . and people were attacking other people, with their faces. It was a blood bath, people biting people, eating them, and then moving on to get others. But what was worse . . . people were getting up after they had been eaten alive and doing to others what had been done to them. Marc threw up, unable to help himself with the horror show in front of his car. Reacting like anyone would, he threw his car in reverse and speed became his middle name. "Not happening, not HappenING, NOT HAPPENING!!" He shouted as he drove, his lunch in his lap

Dare shot her pistol to get the creature's attention and draw it off Keith. "You're not gonna want a knife out here, guy. You'll be dead before you die." She looked to him. "Take my advice. Get the people out of this area and make it fast or we'll all be screwed."

Keith nodded and bellowed out "EVERYONE RUN!!!" He started trying to get people away from the wreck. He didn't know what to think, it was so crazy, everything was starting to blur, yet it was all crystal clear. He was shaking, but he couldn't be sure what from what, fear or something else.


Marc kept going, but soon the highway became the worst option, there were pile ups and people attacking people everywhere

Dare took a few shots into the air to force people to flee. When they mostly were gone, she slowly approached the creature that now stood out of the vehicle. Speaking to Keith, she stated, "I'm gonna make this short and sweet for you. Stuff's been going 'round these parts that I can't explain, but I can tell you that it ain't gonna be pretty when this guy's coming after you. The only thing that kills 'em is a headshot." She usually kept her accent down, though it wasn't that easy for her in tight situations. She was from the south, carrying a mixed accent of the Carolinas and Georgia.

Keith heard the magic words. Those horrible, evil, beautiful words "Head-shot". Like a switch, Keith's eyes became like fire, his fierce gaze fixed on the man's skull. His stance became low, and his free hand went to his hip, drawing his black hunting knife, holding it up-blade. His quick breathing steadied, and he began his slow circling.


Marc nearly crashed his car, swerving to avoid people, speeding back into the city to try and find some kind of shelter. He was hyper-ventilating, and felt like his heart was going to explode. His hands were shaking as he roared into a parking space and dashed into a building

The odd-colored creature came ever so closer to Dare until it leaped. She jumped back, skidding slightly on her heels. She shot out again, smooth and quick. Headshot. The creature dropped dead. "That's how you handle the things. He's not the worst of his kind, though. No. He's fresh. The older ones are tougher."

Keith looked around, scanning for others. His mind was trying to process what was happening, but he was hitting a mental block. His sight locked on the woman, her body seeming to come back to life, her eyes glazed over. "Her?" he asked curtly

Marc was being followed by a group of regular people, but he locked the door behind him, leaving out to die at the swarm.

Dare felt hesitation in her. "Did he bite her as well?"

Keith nodded. He hadn't yet made eye contact with the woman with the gun, and he decided not to for the moment.




Marc tried to relax, pulling a pill bottle from his pocket and swallowing a handful

She sighs and forces herself to shoot the gun a second time, striking down the bitten woman. "I hate doing it when they haven't turned, but she'll be better off." Dare sighs and puts her gun back on her belt. She looks to Keith, arms crossed. "So, what's your name, guy?"

Keith didn't look away until the shot was made, then he began looking around again, scanning for more. "Keith" he said


Marc gobbled down his pills, then went searching for something to tell him what was going on

Dare replies. "The name's Dare. You got a pistol, Keith?" she asks.

"My service pistol is at my apartment" He keeps scanning until he sees a small group of the people shambling forward. He started walking forward

Dare calls out Keith's name and tosses him a pistol she kept spare. "Take it. It's only got half a thing of ammo. You might want to consider refilling." She watches the crowd. "Watch your back. We might be dealing with more than we expected here."

"Keep back" His voice went flat as he caught the pistol. Moving forward, he pointed the pistol forward, his hunting knife in his left hand. As soon as once lunged for him, it was stopped with a knife through it's eye, straight to the hilt. His let the knife go with the zombie falling, he'd get it later. The remaining four moved forward and four bullets left the clip and entered their skulls. He stopped, took a deep breath and it was like the switch was off, his eyes were back to normal and his breathing rate raised. His body was going back into failed processing mode

Dare calls out. "You trust me? Keep up!" She runs quick on her feet, going down the empty road as fast as she can.

Keith dashed behind her, not having much choice

They run several blocks until they come upon a building. Dare makes quick haste to get inside. It was her own small apartment among the dozens on the street. She lets Keith inside and gets the door shut behind them. "I was a bit afraid that this would happen. Bloody [Censored-He*]." She goes and unlocks a door that was key-coded and heads in.

Keith follows her inside, trying to calm himself. Kicking into "Soldier mode" took more out of him the less he used it. He cursed himself for relaxing. "What was wrong with those people?"
