Misunderstood Destinies

"Thou art kind, but no. I rest on the earth by choice." Jargos said

"Very well. Should you need me, you know where to find me. Well, at least, Layla does. I just came to pick up some herbs."

Jargos nodded, then relaxed once again

Layla smiled and bid farewell to her mother before leaving. Layla finally laid back in bed again to rest. She dozed off for a little while.

Jargos soon found sleep and rested well, he had no dreams, which he didn't mind

Layla slept with ease until a face came to her mind while dreaming. It was evil looking and had a dark grin. She found herself in a locked room. It was dark. One window was available but it was storming outside. The figure was cloaked. She was but a few feet away from him. He reached out for her but didn't touch her. Layla was frozen in fear but she didn't know who the person was. Markings began to glow on his clean skin. She felt like she was suffocating.

Jargos awoke, and sniffed the air. He looked over at Layla and saw she seemed to be uncomfortable. He cocked his head, then moved her bed to shake her awake. It wasn't even dark yet outside

Layla reached out to the figure. Her hand was glowing. She grabbed his wrist and twisted it. Upon contact, Layla felt a burning sensation on her hands. The two were thrown apart. An earthquake began. She quickly awakened.

"Art thou alright? Thine rest seemed most unpleasing" Jargos asked

"I... I'm not sure what I saw." She glanced at her hands, turning them over and back to check for burns. "It was just so strange."

"What was it?" he asked

"Some shadow of some sort. I do not know who he or she was. It was too dark. When they reached out towards me, I saw some strange marks and then I was instantly suffocating. I don't know if I was dreaming of the elders taking my powers or if it someone was trying to warn me of something."

"What did the marks look like?" Jargos asked perplexed, worried they would match the runes on his hands

"I can't really explain it. It was just simply foreign to me."

"Hm . . . Odd indeed . . ." Jargos thought for a moment

Layla instantly had a feeling of weakness within her. "This wasn't a dream. Someone tapped into my powers, though it was only briefly." She felt faint.

"Someone did what? But how?" He asked. At this point Jargos got up, alarmed

"I have no clue. Do you think...?" She was referencing the Mages.

Jargos growled and sniffed the air, there was a trace off death magic, just like the bone giant, but how? How did they get here? He let loose an animalistic snarl and runes began to glow red

"Easy, Jargos. We don't need someone hearing. I understand you're concerned, but we're trying to keep our cool with Elder Raymona suspicious."

Jargos bit his tongue but his runes did not stop glowing, they in fact got brighter, gut no more growls or snarls escaped his lips. He sniffed the air more. He knew he could track it


"Well, what do we do, then?"

"We just continue on as we said we'd do. Rest over the evening, speak with the Guild leader, and we go from there."

"But someone just tried to invade your mind" He said with urgency, but didn't raise his voice. His runes were a bright scarlet, as he was glowing bright enough to make the room seem less dim in the coming dusk

"Even if we did leave now, I wouldn't be able to go on for long. I believe he was trying to remove one of my powers but failed because you interfered or he wasn't powerful enough."

Jargos sighed, then let his runes simmer down.

"Alright, try once more to sleep. If you seem uncomfortable again, I shall awaken you"
