Barbus laughed, and the laugh echoed across the room.
"I'll have one of you soon enough. Just wait and see."
Barbus's shadow was gone, and Kat's was back to normal. The chill rushed over her again as he left.

"Kat, watch Alice. I got his biometric signature locked."

Kat nodded as she saw Tom vanish.
"I'm going to go make some tea. I need something for my nerves."
"Alright. Just calm down, Alice. You'll be okay."
While Alice was gone, Kat heard Barbus's voice return.
"Greetings, my dear."

(I've been freaking looking forward to this.)

Tom was in the same dimension as Barbus as he paid attention to his actions and conversation.

"What do you want with me?" Kat asked.
"What every person that agrees with the Darkness wants. Your death."
"You can't kill me."
"I won't be the one to kill you. It's going to be you who does it. It's your fear. Not mine."
As he placed his hand into the air, she instantly could not breathe.
"And the only way that you can stop it is to conquer your fear. Good luck. I have a feeling you have a little under five minutes before your body shuts down."
Barbus vanished. Kat fell to her knees, trying to gain air. Alice soon returned. She yelled out Kat's name, knowing that she was suffocating. She quickly ran to Kat's side, however, it appeared as if she didn't know Alice was there at all. As if she couldn't hear or see her.

"Kat, fight it!" Tom yelled across the illusion.

Barbus appeared in Alice's place, thus making Kat unable to see Alice entirely.
"They both left you. Tom left you to go fight off a spirit that you barely know, and Alice wants to find her own peace. Where did that leave you? Just like how your parents left you alone in the cold. What were you going to do? They just wanted you to die. That's all they wanted."
"I don't... I don't want to be alone..."
"But, that's where they left you, now didn't they? All lost in the snow, that evening. Left to freeze to death. That snow was very deep. I think we're both surprised anyone found you. Alone is all you have been all your life. Even now, right when you need someone."
Barbus knew that Kat's fear would be almost impossible to conquer. She was unable to hear or see anyone, aside from Barbus's voice. He hoped to push her forward, enough to the point where she'd give up.

"Tom, what are you doing?" Henry yelled from the communicator. "I'm breaking the seal. Barbus is to be eliminated before Kat faces death." "You break the seal, and London could be destroyed." "I can control my powers." "Since when?" "I got it under control. Trust me." "Oy, Tom... If you mess up..." "Relax. I'm performing the unsealing..." Tom bit his left thumb as he wiped the blood on his right arm. "Level 1 seal..." Tom felt his seal weakening as his eyes turned red. "Level 2 seal..." "Level 3..."

Jason is worried. "Be careful!" He yells to Tom.

Barbus thought, "It doesn't matter now whether I die or not. Unless she can face her fear, she won't survive. This is perfect."
Kat almost swore that everything was in a slow motion. As if the room was spinning for a moment.

Tom easily broke the barrier of illusion as he yelled, "KAT. SNAP OUT OF IT. I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME. FIGHT THIS FEAR BEFORE I LOSE IT AND DESTROY BARBUS AND LONDON ALTOGETHER! FIGHT IT, KAT. FIGHT IT!"

Barbus suddenly appeared in his full form behind Kat, wanting to finish her before she responded.
"Tom..." she started.
Alice suddenly stood up and went to hit Barbus, but she was knocked back suddenly.
"Silly girl. Let a man finish his work."
"Listen to me, Kat! He's behind you! Tom, Jason, and I are all here! You're not alone!"
"I'm not alone... Barbus... he's there?" She stood up and turned around, realizing Barbus was truly there. Her breathing returned.
"You bas***, how dare you hurt people in this manner."
"Oh, da**..."
Kat suddenly struck a blow to Barbus in the face, then in the stomach. She kicked him in his side, thus tossing him over. Kat was full of rage now, and she felt suddenly very confident and determined. Something she had never felt before. She felt powerful for a moment. The power to defend herself, and others.
"How did you do it? Your fear? How?" Barbus asked. His hand was bleeding from a cut.
"Because a certain someone told me I'm never alone. Even if I can't hear or see them. I know they're there. You tried to block my senses. You tried to make me fear what I was afraid of and never should have been. Tom saved my life that night from freezing. He helped me when the Shadow attacked. Not only that, but he showed me my role in life. To stop people like you."
"So, you've awakened the true Kat Patterson. They always said you'd awaken from this childish person you have."
"You've made me realize I don't have to fear anything. Not as long as I've got friends like Tom, Alice, and Jason. I spent my life in fear. Never knowing who I truly was. I know now, and dying because of you is not what I'm doing today. And I'm not going to die. From where I'm standing, you're going to if you don't leave now."
"We'll see."
Barbus stood up and threw several blows at Kat. She dodged, and threw several back. He fell over in pain. A wound to his side was bleeding. Kat's eye color changed to a silver color.
"The start of the awakening. Go back to the underworld, Barbus. Don't show your face to me again."
A marking formed in Kat's hand. Barbus went to make one last attack, in which she quickly put a hand to his chest. He cried out in sudden pain and flames formed beneath him. Barbus then vanished.
Kat closed her hand as the marking faded, and her eye color returned to normal.

Tom banged his fist into his other hand as he grinned maliciously. "I've been ordered to eliminate you. I have other plans."

"I work on my own. I never said I worked with anyone. The Darkness kept their distance from me because I never wanted to team up with them. There is only one thing we have in common. We want the girl dead. And, if you had some common sense, you'd think the same."
